The neighborhood counter
Pharmacy, gathering place, and lunch stop—part of the everyday fabric of old Key West.
A KEY WEST NAME WORTH REMEMBERING
We aren’t rebuilding the pharmacy or recreating its entire menu. We’re bringing back the cheeseburger Key West never forgot.
THE IDEA
Dennis Pharmacy wasn’t designed by a restaurant group. It belonged to the everyday rhythm of Key West: locals at the counter, a cheeseburger on the griddle, and a hand-painted sign fading honestly in the sun.
This revival is deliberately focused: one cheeseburger, made with care, carrying the name and memory of the place that made it famous.
According to longstanding Key West lore, the Dennis Pharmacy cheeseburger helped motivate Jimmy Buffett’s “Cheeseburger in Paradise.” We present that as the island story it is—not as a settled historical fact—and invite anyone with photographs, clippings, menus, or firsthand memories to help document it.
We’re currently collecting photographs, menus, clippings, and firsthand memories. Every historical detail published here will be sourced and verified before launch.
Pharmacy, gathering place, and lunch stop—part of the everyday fabric of old Key West.
The storefront changed, but the memory stayed with the families who knew it.
Not the pharmacy. Not the full lunch counter. Just its most famous menu item and the story people still tell about it.
Have an old photo, menu, or memory? We’d love to hear from you.

AN ORIGINAL PIECE OF THE STORY
The original mark gives the revival its real palette, typography, pharmacy symbolism, and unmistakable Key West point of view.
